Biography
A sweet Southern gal with the manners to match, ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne is perky enough to brighten even the darkest investigation. A Louisiana native who speaks fluent Spanish, Calleigh graduated from Tulane University before taking a job with the New Orleans PD, after which she was recruited by Horatio Cain to join the Miami-Dade Crime Lab, going from bayous to the Everglades. Calleigh’s career in law enforcement may have been influenced by her father—Kenwall “Duke” Duquesne—a criminal defense attorney who doubles as a sometimes-functioning-sometimes-not alcoholic.
Calleigh is a woman with a strong, proud center who was forced to take on an adult role when just a child. She had to give support to her numb, withdrawn mother, but also picked up the pieces that her father continually left behind. Though Calleigh has risen above her family issues, they still inform her life and sensibilities.
Driven to succeed, sometimes at all costs, Calleigh was valedictorian of her high school class. During one of her father's many "dry spells," Calleigh decided that going away college, even if only a few hundred miles away in New Orleans, would be in everyone's best interests. And though she begrudgingly had to settle for salutatorian of her college class, it was there that she mastered the sciences and made the decision to apply her experience in the field of law enforcement.
After graduation, Calleigh walked a beat for the New Orleans Police Department, and it was while doing so that her impressive knowledge of firearms gained her a reputation as the "bullet girl." Word of her talents traveled to Miami, where Horatio Caine was in need of a ballistics expert.
Though she has learned to trust her co-workers with her very life, trust has been much more elusive in her personal relationships. Having lost one ex-boyfriend to a suicide, and another potential boyfriend to a woman determined to take down the entire lab, Calleigh walks with caution. Her heart is not an easy place to penetrate.
Calleigh has proven that talent and beauty are a potent combination. Though she often uses her charm to break down barriers, Calleigh always relies on her calm rationale to get to the heart of a crime. In the end, all that matters is that justice is served.
